My role as a business development manager involves engaging our customers and advising them on how to set up laboratory-based apprenticeships, and promoting these apprenticeships amongst the science industry sector.Scientific apprenticeships make up only a very small percentage of all apprenticeship programmes in the UK (~0.1%). At CSR, which is a leading supplier of innovative scientific training, we aim to:-promote scientific apprenticeship within the scientific industry-identify business opportunities and build partnerships across different scientific sectors

Deliver chemistry training to apprentices for BTEC Level 4 Higher Nationals Chemical Science in Industry, in a 24 months programme.

- In Professor Matthew Gaunt's groupProject 1) Protein modification/biotinylation via oxidative dearomatisation of tyrosine-containing polypeptides.Project 2) Development of novel C-H activation methodologies to streamline construction of designed, molecular structures.Other academic duties:-Lab instructor in the undergraduate practical labs-Undergraduate tutors teaching small groups (2 to 4 people) of undergraduates for a range of chemistry courses from 1st year to 4th year.- Day-to-day lab supervisor of a Masters student.

A synthetic/medicinal chemist who have worked across a number of therapeutic areas (Allergy & Respiratory, Pain, Urology).Key reponsibilities/achievements:• Designed compounds based on SAR analysis and physicochemical properties.• Deveolped and optimised synthetic routes for synthesis of intemediates/test compounds/biological tool compounds, from 5 mg to 100 g scale with full characterisation.• Led and co-ordinated the synthetic strategy for a group of external contract chemists (6 people) to ensure timely delivery of compounds for multiple projects, often simultaneously.• Key driver in the department in introducing and implementing cutting-edge science (e.g. ‘hydrogen-borrowing’ approach as an alternative to reductive amination in parallel amines synthesis).• Radiollabelling lead for numerous projects, offering guidance and advice.• Coordinated and participated in collaboration with external academics on research that helped shape the company’s synthetic strategic themes, through organising seminars and chairing of roundtable discussion.• Supevised and mentored PhD, placement and summer students.• Presented work in both internal and external environments and have been recognised with numerous awards.

- Worked in the Blakermore group.- Optimised reaction conditions and synthesised analogues for a research project on the stereoselective synthesis of α,β-unsaturated esters from aldehydes via the Modified Julia Olefination.- Full characterisation of compounds with NMR, elemental analysis, IR, MS, and melting point.-This work was subsequently published.
