Leading on the interoperability aspects of a transformation programme to allow lab results, clinical discharge documents and patient referrals which flow between English Trusts and Wales, for Welsh patients. Focusing on the architecture, user research and solution design, aligned to both tactical and strategic objectives.

Enagaged via Answer Digital (February 2022 to May 2022) as a contract Technical Architect role with NHS England and Improvement. I led on the technical integration aspects of a discovery piece of work related to Genomics (cancer and rare diseases). My brief was to address the drawbacks of the paper request process and propose an architecture that would align to pathology as well as opportunities for integration with existing NHS national standards and services. As part of this piece of work I produced a target architecture (high level design) and drafted candidate extensions to existing HL7 FHIR pathology profiles.

Engaged with the GPIT futures Programme working on National Integration Adaptors, APIs to national services and standards alignment to support widening access of supplier systems to the GPIT market. My main focus was the architecture/integration aspects of translation and mapping between legacy messaging standards such as HL7v3 and EDIFACT to FHIR.

IT Consultancy, specialising in systems integration of clinical systems with NHS national services, including MESH, SMSP, Spine and the ODS API Suite.I was engaged on a project within the MOD working as a Security Cleared Integration Architect. I delivered detailed design of common services architecture to support an upgrade to the MOD's health care system. The project involved working with key stakeholders across the delivery team and the business to manage design and deployment of fully tested solutions. The InterSystems HealthShare product set was leveraged to deliver end to end Interoperability. The brief also included provision of synchronisation processes (pub-sub) to exchange information with an incumbent system plus provide Interoperability with NHS.The approach adopted utilises architectural building blocks with Restful API services and HL7 FHIR where appropriate.

Technical specialism and strategy development focusing on enhancing technology which manages and publishes organisation reference data for use throughout systems supporting NHS Health and Social Care.I have had a pivotal role in the delivery of the "ODS API Suite" making Health and Social Care Organisation Reference Data available via modern lightweight RESTful APIs. Involvement with defining the strategy for a national directory of clinical services to support Health and Social Care. 2015: Completed the delivery of a technical interface and supporting technical infrastructure for Spine 2 (Spine is national infrastructure and Data used by the NHS) to administer organisation reference data directly into national services from an authoritative service external to Spine.2013: Led on the technical aspects of the 2012 Health and Social Care Act assuring changes to support IT systems, particularly around the architecture which depends upon organisation data used nationally and locally. The scope of this work involved ensuring business continuity for supplier systems and end users - during and post-transition.Between 2007 and 2012 I had a Technical Architect role supporting improvements to the. NHS Spine Directory service, supporting people and systems connecting to nationally provided (and locally administered) infrastructure which supports NHS business processes.

Darnster Software LLP was incorporated in July 2013 and specialised in App development for the Android platform. Darnster launched its first product "Chill Central"​ on 20th September 2013. The concept, design and delivery of Chill Central was entirely my own work and was inspired by my desire to use one smartphone for personal and business use. Essentially the App was a call blocker which was both powerful and simple to use. My motivation for developing the product was partly down to "green" issues (the need to keep only one device charged) and to reduce the bulk in my pockets when commuting and travelling to meetings.During the process of launching Chill Central I gained valuable experience in terms of mobile application development, product localisation and configuration, marketing via social media and running a small business.

SLW was a startup company aiming to develop websites for a number of local businesses. I managed the design and development of multi-media content and was also involved in the bid process and client liaison.

Managing the marketing budget, database marketing, managing exhibitions including design of presentation graphics. I became closely involved with direct marketing campaigns using customer data to communicate with business to business customers. This led to an interest in IT after writing and executing reports which automated the processing of sales leads via mail merge using report data and MS Word basic (fore-runner to VBA).
