Initially employed as a software engineer / systems administrator, I transitioned into a more GIS-focused role and now see myself as the GIS lead for the company. My day-to-day role consists of analysing tabular datasets, producing appropriate analytical diagrams and using the resulting datasets for detailed figure (or map) creation in a variety of GIS software (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS and MapInfo) for reporting purposes. The technical aspect of my job involves manipulating large, raw datasets from terrestrial, offshore and satellite receivers. Regular tasks involve maintaining in-house databases and ensuring data from live feeds are stored correctly.

Often left solely in charge of my department, this job had seen me act as supervisor to many employees, introducing them to how we worked as a company and generally taking charge. I was very much a utility member of staff adapting to working in various areas of the store – be it checkouts, good receiving, merchandising or replenishing of stock. It was a very customer-friendly yet demanding area of work dealing with hotel/club owners and fulfilling their orders.
