About Danny Yeo
My position with the College of Life Sciences IT group at BYU has evolved over the years. I still have full-time and part-time employees who handle daily tasks/requests to provide IT support to the faculty and staff of the College including working on short/long-term projects to meet their IT needs. We still do all aspects of computing including a service desk call center, endpoint management, remote applications services, server administration, networking, security management, web and applications development, etc. Our College has the largest undergraduate student enrollment. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BYU_College_of_Life_Sciences) I served on an advisory committee at the university level and investigated and researched new technologies, standards, and best practices, that would benefit the entire campus community. Occasionally, I would conduct a proof of concept on an IT product or service after a deep dive into the technology for implementation in my College when the interest is lacking at the university level. With a limited budget, I would carefully invest in technology when we have determined that it is a good fit and meets the needs in our area. Thus, my role is becoming more like a solution architect.I still negotiate the best deal when purchasing products and/or services for our College. As such, I have gotten to know many people in the industry including representatives from vendors, manufacturers, and my peers in other organizations (commercial, government, and education). I enjoy my association with these professional acquaintances and friends and continue to learn much from everyone with whom I interact.Finally, I work with many of the nicest people at BYU in the College of Life Sciences. These faculty and staff members including students are absolutely delightful to work with and in many instances, exceptional in their work ethics and interaction with others. I am fortunate, even blessed to work in a wonderful environment.

I manage a team of full-time as well as part-time employees in providing computer support to the faculty and staff of the College of Life Sciences as well as the College of Undergraduate Education. We do all aspect of computer support from running a help desk call center to web/application development to research computing on the supercomputers. We run our own high performance computing cluster and mange the applications as well as the front-end UI for job submissions.I serve on 3 advisory boards/committees at the university level and along with my colleagues, we tackle decisions on the technologies, standards and best practices implemented at the larger enterprise arena. This is a very demanding position but rewarding just as well. I enjoy the work environment and the interaction with wonderful people at the university.I am an excellent negotiator and work very well with our industry's vendors. I have negotiated pricing for IT equipment for our college that is comparable if not superior in quality but heavily discounted beyond what the university purchases for their standard configuration.My employees have also communicated verbally their enjoyment in working under my management and expressed great job satisfaction. I truly believe in the quote from Kenneth Blanchard's "One Minute Manager" book where he shares the concept that, "People who feel good about themselves, produce good results."
