Hazardous Area Response Team Paramedic (Hart)
CurrentThe Hazardous Area Response Team are specially recruited and trained paramedics who give NEAS the capability of providing a medical response to hazardous or challenging incidents. These incidents may involve Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or explosive (CBRNe) materials, or may involve train crashes, large-scale vehicle crashes, building collapses or significant fires. HART also provide a response to Marauding Terror Attacks. Each of England's NHS Ambulance Trusts has at least one HART team, which means they can cover the whole of the country, in some cases working together on specific, large scale or high-profile incidents, either accidental or deliberately caused. HART teams work alongside the police, fire & rescue services and other organisations within what is known as the ‘inner cordon’ (or ‘hot zone’) of large and major incidents. The job of the HART teams is to reach patients in hazardous environments to triage and treat them and help save lives in very difficult circumstances. They are also there to provide clinical care to other emergency personnel who may become injured whilst attending these difficult and challenging incidents. HART has a range of capabilities and competencies, including Safe Working at Height, Urban Search and Rescue and Swift Water Rescue.
