Dr Danping Wang is Senior Lecturer of Chinese at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. She began teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages in 2005 and has extensive experience developing new courses and teaching resources for learners of Chinese at all levels at Renmin University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, the University of Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Vocational Training Council. Her commitment to Chinese language teaching and leadership in Chinese programme development has been recognised by the Teaching Excellence Award in Hong Kong. In her previous academic appointment as Assistant Professor, she has successfully secured a major research grant funded by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council. At the University of Auckland, she is currently leading a Marsden Fund project supported by the Royal Society of New Zealand. Her Marsden project aims to integrate Māori epistemologies as an innovative framework to transform Chinese language education in the Aotearoa-specific context and beyond. The Faculty of Arts has awarded her an Early Career Research Excellence Award in recognition of her contribution to promoting multiculturalism and Asian language education.
