Executive DirectorCo-Labs, Inc. Aug 2015 - PresentBoulder, CoCO-LABS is a non-profit consortium of federal laboratories, research institutions, businesses and economic development organizations that provide financial and in-kind support for programs that promote the retention and expansion of Colorado's scientific resources. OwnerPowers Writing Service Oct 2000 - PresentBoulder, ColoradoI am a storyteller, a broadcaster, an analyst and communication strategist. I excel at distilling a company's best attributes, activities, community impacts and other positive traits they wish to highlight. I can communicate this information using social media, traditional written communication and via public speaking. I am most proficient at Twitter and Linked In terms of online engagement with relevant audiences. I write spotlight articles for businesses, non-profits and related groups who need to get their message out and often have not had any formal public relations protocols. Typically this is done without direct attribution; for example earlier this year I ghost-wrote a book for a Boulder entrepreneur expanding her marketing efforts. The best part is hearing my clients say "you really captured the essence of what we do and why we do it!"Are your opportunities shaped by govt. decisions and/or social trends? In my consulting role I specialize in assessing the political and regulatory landscape affecting companies. I provide Regulatory Prediction: researching, analyzing and connecting various policy trends and their likelihood of coming together to shape new requirements and/or opportunities for various industries.I also have a penchant for making connections between people who should know each other. I am an experienced liaison and interpreter between often indifferent, distrustful stakeholders, i.e. companies and politicians; regulators and industry organizations, neighborhood activists and developers. I help organizations advance their mission through savvy, good faith communication. Let me help tell your audience why you are important, relevant and necessary.

Executive DirectorBoulder Tomorrow Nov 2013 - Dec 2018BoulderSince 1997 Boulder Tomorrow has advocated for pragmatic policies that nurture the economy of the Boulder Valley and I am guiding the evolution of this group into a new chapter of constructive engagement with the theme "The Best Business Ideas Shaping Boulder's Future". My duties include developing highly compelling presentations for the membership; development and implementation of a strategic communication plan, increased membership and influence regarding new & evolving policies that serve to nurture the resiliency and growth of Boulder area businesses. We are known for hosting analytical, provocative public forums meant to provide business-minded perspectives to complex issues facing Boulder and the region. We are willing to bring forward experts and advocates on issues that other organizations do not have the political will or direct mission to do so. Our forums and projects are specifically meant to provide a “safe place” for thoughtful and pragmatic leaders from across the political and civic spectrum to understand more of the business community’s ideas. Topics are chosen for their complexity, provocative nature and relevance to how Boulder can evolve. The audience includes a range of business leaders, elected officials, VCs, developers, activists, academics, non-profit reps and savvy residents who know robust discussions lead to better decisions. We look to guiding documents such as Boulder’s Economic Sustainability Strategy, the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan and the goals of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Revenue Stabilization to inform our efforts. We believe our experiences as local business leaders offer unique and powerful insight into how to make Boulder the best place to live in the world. -

OwnerTripdata Aug 1999 - Dec 2008Boulder CoFor ten years I researched and planned specialized vacations for savvy travelers looking for very specific experiences. My business model was borne of the rise in internet-accessible information in the late 90s and an intentional focus on working as a consultant for the traveler, not as a paid/commissioned employee of a given travel company. By removing the commission incentive on my side, I was free to find the exact best niche options for my clients, following very thorough brainstorming and visioning conversations with them about the experience they wanted to manifest. We would always answer "What would make this trip a 10 on a 10 scale for you?" and then, the best part - "What would make this an 11?". The tagline that I emphasized was "TripData: We find what's best for you, not us." The best part of the job was hearing after a client returned "That was even better than we imagined."

Policy AnalystColorado Division Of Wildlife Mar 1999 - Apr 2004Greater Denver AreaWithin the Human Dimensions Section (a reference at the time to the role humans play as a significant influence on wildlife and the environment) I researched best practices in various hunting and game management regulations. Hunter surveys, weapon regulations, Wildlife Commission and Dept. of Natural Resources rule-making processes and related customer service projects filled my days. A highlight was developing the intake forms and protocols for chronic wasting disease testing around the state.
