Profile bio

About Dr Dan Pronk

2014, I discharged from Australia’s elite Special Air Service Regiment (SASR).Then I burned out. I was lucky to have no injuries, a beautiful wife, three amazing kids, and incredible job prospects. But I lost my purpose and identity. I was directionless. After four intense Afghanistan deployments as a combat doctor with 100+ missions, coming home felt like driving at 130 kph in a 40 kph school zone.I had no idea how to adjust. And even my Nokia phone was 15 years outdated. Suppressed memories resurfaced — nightmares about friends I was helpless to save. The fear that was missing on my combat deployments now crippled me in crowded shopping centres and restaurants. A bomb in my brain needed defusing. I craved understanding and acceptance but resigned myself to never reintegrating into society. The loneliness was crushing. Then an old military mate offered me an unexpected lifeline. He was the medical director of a small regional hospital in Queensland. His deputy had quit, so offered me a job. Joining a small, high-performance team restored my sense of purpose. The role’s pace gave little time for dwelling on the past. The medical skills I honed in Afghanistan, which failed to save my friends, now saved lives. In 2019, I self-published a book that developed a surprising cult following. Then, in 2021, I co-authored a bestselling book on resilience — and appeared as the lead medic, ‘Dr Dan’ on the hit TV show SAS Australia. In 2022, I published my memoir. For years, I felt like a part of me died in Afghanistan. That I was broken. But the trauma birthed a better version of me. My new purpose is to “save just one life” — especially within the first responder community that's at breaking point. The nightmares are gone. I now revel in routine tasks that once bored me. Five years in special operations taught me “No Excuses.”The same ferocious resilience that achieved your calling can rebuild your life after a traumatic experience.I'm just a small average guy who pushed himself to perform in complex environments. Now I can give you the tools to thrive. Career highlights:→ Commendation for Distinguished Service → NATO Special Operations Forces Medical Expert Panel member → Successfully completed SASR selection and supported multiple courses. How I can help:→ Special unit selection preparation→ Building and maintaining resilience → Medical response in high-threat environments→ Transition from military, law enforcement, and first responder roles.

Listed skills include Army, Emergency Management, Military Operations, Medicine, and 25 others.

Guardian Personal Safety training was founded by two Special Operations Team Intensive Care Paramedics with strong backgrounds in martial arts to educate people in threat identification and de-escalation techniques to reduce incidents of Occupational Violence. Through techniques including enhanced situational awareness, identification of non-verbal indicators of escalating aggression, and attention to physical distancing, Guardian has been able to achieve up to 30% decreases in physical assault rates with client organisations. Physical techniques are taught as a last resort, however the emphasis is always on preemptive measures to avoid physical altercations in the first instance.
