A decade ago when standalone terminals were the norm being a Payments expert and providing phenomenal customer service made me very successful. While the average attrition rate industry wide is a little under three years, I have many satisfied merchants with me for 10+ years. Looking for a greater challenge a few years back, I narrowed my focus to two sub verticals, B2B card processing, and Hospitality POS. To remain an expert, I spend 3 to 5 hours a week on industry training, including webinars, podcasts, and workshops. B2B card processing is a vastly underserved market due to lack of awareness on business owners and merchant level sales people. A huge chunk of CFO’s and business owners aren’t aware of how Level II and Level III processing through interchange optimization can cut their card acceptance cost by 35% even exists. I will do a quick scan of a statement to see if they already have Level II or Level III processing, about 1 in 12 already do. If they do not, I will provide a detailed line by line statement analysis to determine how much of a cost reduction we can achieve.Hospitality POS has changed rapidly in the last several years with many systems now in the “cloud”. In addition, in many cases now the POS system and card processor are one and the same. With the relationships I have established with many different processors, I can often obtain a cost reduction a hospitality owner couldn’t get on their own.
