I strive to create innovative, robust, and elegant solutions to complex supply chain problems by utilizing my expertise in data, design, and leadership. Here are a few things I’ve learned throughout my career that have been very influential in how I approach work:Servant Leadership – The role of a leader is to serve the people they lead. In a workplace, this occurs through providing a clear & compelling vision, removing obstacles that get in the way of productivity, listening to & learning from your team, and fostering an environment of trust & respect.Design is Not Math – Designing a system, process, warehouse, or supply chain network is not a math problem. Data and math are often needed, but design is the human process of evaluating tradeoffs and finding creative solutions to problems with no perfect answer. Usability Matters – The only useful tool is one that is used. Create things that adapt to your users rather than asking your users to adapt to you.Sharpen the Axe – A wise person once said, “If I had 6 hours to cut down a tree, I would spend the first 4 sharpening the axe.” Time spent properly understanding requirements, documenting expectations, defining interfaces, and aligning on scope can prevent a lot of wasted effort.Understand Systems – Every system, whether it’s a WMS, the federal government, or a pencil sharpener, has a shared set of attributes and behaviors. Being a student of systems in general provides insight & helps avoid pitfalls when navigating existing systems or creating new ones. People Matter – Work matters not for its own sake, but because of how it can positively impact the lives of people. Work should be satisfying & challenging for the worker, valuable to the customer, and uplifting to society.
