Dan Rosen is a Hans Severeins Award at Angel Capital Association. He possess expertise in start ups, entrepreneurship, venture capital, strategy, strategic partnerships and 43 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "Folks don't know this - but a handful of us spearheaded the MSN Search efforts for Microsoft - all defined and led by Dan - which he then at the time called project Eureka! Dan was the forward thinker who wanted to get us into the Web Search space at the time when the only competition(or experiment) on the planet was Alta Vista. Not only were we getting into Web Search, we were also going to get ourselves into Web Catalogues and advanced natural language - again long before folks had a remote clue. Again, all thanks to Dan's vision of the future. Circa 95/96 - as the second dev guy along with John Messerly from MSR, Richard Greenberg as the PM - Dan put us in Microsoft on a path of Web Search. We went through several changes of hands at Microsoft - from Eureka - full web search (started by Dan) engaging Tim Bray from Opentext to Yukon - full web search - (led by Terri Schiele) later working with Eric Brewer and Paul Gauthier at Inktomi to MSN Search - Directory by us and Web Search by Infoseek, Alta vista and Inktomi(led by Bill Bliss). I stayed the core architect and dev manager of our Search efforts shipping MSN Search finally - but always helped by Dan who had at the time had moved into Microsoft research and led the technology transfer efforts. We all lived through the evolving Web and Directory Search era of Altavista, OpenText, Lycos, Yahoo, Infoseek, Northern lights, Google and then our own MSN Search - all coming into existence at various points in time. When I look back - I see Dan as the forward thinker and visionary back in the days when people were clueless about the potential of web search and online advertising was at best, a portal play (yahoo, aol, msn etc) thought.
