Assistant Mechanical EngineerUpmc Jun 2015 - Aug 2015Pittsburgh, Pa, UsDesigned and built an isotonic torque dynamometer (ITD). The device simulates the activity of turning a tight screw. The ITD’s load cell (Transducer Techniques, LLC) and encoder (US Digital) were used to continuously measure the supination arc, direction of rotation, center of supination arc, applied torque, and angular velocity. The ITD uses a disc brake to provide a constant resistance to the test subject’s applied supination torque. The novel device has been used to understand the affect of a biceps rupture on supination arc and power. This information has been accepted for presentation at the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Annual Meeting 2015 and Specialty Day 1016. -
Summer Research InternAllegheny Health Network Jun 2013 - Aug 2013Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, UsDuties included dissection of surgically repair cadaveric distal biceps tendons and creation of three-dimensional (3-D) models of their repair sites. These models were made by using markers on the bone scanned at three 90º increments, with a two-camera optical tracking system (Spica Technology Corporation). A custom MATLAB code (Mathworks) code computed the 3-D images. The work was published at part of a scientific research paper on the importance of preserving the radial tuberosity during distal biceps repair.
