Dr. Schonfeld received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, California, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, in 1986, 1988, and 1990, respectively.In August 1990, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Illinois, Chicago, Illinois, where he is Professor Emeritus in the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Schonfeld has been elevated to the rank of Fellow of the IEEE “for contributions to image and video analysis.” He was also elevated to the rank of Fellow of the SPIE “for specific achievements in morphological image processing and video analysis.” Dr. Schonfeld has been elected University Scholar of the University of Illinois and received the Graduate Mentoring Award of the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has authored over 250 technical papers in various journals and conferences. Dr. Schonfeld has served as Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology. He has also served as Area Editor for Special Issues of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine. He has also served as Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, and IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing. Dr. Schonfeld serves as President of the Schonfeld Consulting Corporation, a company focused on technical support in computer science and engineering. Dr. Schonfeld has served as a consultant and expert witness for various companies including Amazon, ARRIS, ASUS, Blackberry, Bloomberg, Broadcom, Cablevision, Cisco, Cloudflare, Dell, DISH Network, Dolby, GE, Google, GoPro, Hewlett-Packard, Huawei, Intel, Lenovo, LG Electronics, MediaTek, Microsoft, Motorola, Netflix, NVIDIA, Panasonic, Polycom, Qualcomm, Samsung, TASER, Time Warner, TiVo, Vizio, Zeiss.
