I lead Riverkeeper's Advocacy, Policy and Planning Program, which collaborates with our Legal and Science Programs to support our mission of protecting the Hudson River from source to sea, and safeguarding drinking water supplies.

Oversaw Riverkeeper's program work while the organization completed its search for a new President.

Chair, Communications Committee, which has helped the Alliance's executive director meet part of the organization's mission of "communicate as a collective voice" for mostly volunteer watershed-based groups working throughout the Hudson River Watershed.

The Hudson River Drinking Water Intermunicipal Council, known as the Hudson 7, was formed in May 2018 by resolution of the 7 communities that rely on the Hudson River for drinking water: City and Town of Poughkeepsie, Village and Town of Rhinebeck, and the Towns of Esopus, Hyde Park and Lloyd. The council is dedicated to protecting the Hudson River as a source of drinking water for more than 100,000 people.

As director of Riverkeeper’s Water Quality Program, Dan Shapley and the water quality team coordinate the largest community science water quality sampling project of its kind, sampling hundreds of locations throughout the Hudson River and its tributaries, primarily to show when and where water is safe for swimming. The data gathered is the basis for advocacy to stop water pollution, by catalyzing needed investments in water infrastructure and watershed management, including protection of drinking water at its source.

Increase, engage and empower Riverekeeper's membership through communications, event planning and volunteer organizing (including citizen science).

The Wallkill River Watershed Alliance formed in 2015, building on the dormant Wallkill River Task Force and community science water quality monitoring coordinated by Riverkeeper since 2012. The Alliance engages the public, celebrates the river and advocates at all levels of government for its restoration and protection.
