Automated legal contract negotiation leveraging small data and natural language processing (NLP), and awarded patents for these innovations. Analyzed linguistic data inside the legal domain. Developed special purpose NLP tools for the automation of contract negotiation, including coreference resolution and slot extraction, as well as mathematics, techniques, and tools for the seamless handling of contradictory annotations.

Worked on technical aspects of developing an annotated corpus of semantic modality, including data management, applications to facilitate annotation, and evaluation of annotator and guideline performance. Worked with Amazon Mechanical Turk to prototype possibility for a crowd-sourced linguistic corpus. Developed application for adjudication of doubly-annotated corpora, and managed data during corpus production.Teaching assistant for Generative Syntax I, two semesters of Introduction to Language, and Computational Corpus Linguistics. Responsible for evaluating student work, leading recitation sections (when applicable), and delivering guest lectures. Co-instructor during Spring 2015 for Introduction to Language with Mari Sakai. Responsible for introducing Georgetown undergraduates to the fundamentals of linguistics.Instructor during Spring 2016 for Language and Computers. Prepared course from scratch for conveying the capabilities and challenges of interfacing language and computers without requiring any programming. Prepared lectures, exercises, and examinations intended to challenge students' analytical, quantitative, and qualitative skills.

Became familiar with cloud-based big data technology, including Amazon AWS, Apache Ambari, Hadoop, Zookeeper, MapReduce. Contributed to open-source tools. Developed software to streamline deployment of Hadoop clusters for engineers. Rolled multiple engineering tools together into a single tool for ease-of-use demonstrations which allowed single-command Hadoop cluster deployments. Hands on experience in software engineering in the private sector and commercial realm.

Worked in the healthcare innovation mission area. Developed familiarity with FDA medical device approval processes. Leveraged available tools to quickly conduct optical character recognition (OCR) of numerous PDF documents using cloud servers. Extracted information OCRed documents. Created scripting language for specifying patterns of varying strength at the orthographic and syntactic level for extraction of medical device names. End of summer implementation tripled baseline performance.

Worked on leveraging event and word sense information cross-linguistically using a vector space model. Developed a process to bootstrap a Chinese version of WordNet, leveraging available data where possible. Processed millions of documents in an attempt to extract word senses.

Research in astronomy under Dr. Harold Butner for DEBRIS: Disc Emission Bias-free Reconnaissance in the infraRed and Submillimeter, an open-time key project for the Herschel Space Observatory. Participated in a literature search for stellar ages of stars in the DEBRIS target catalog. Reduced and analyzed images of stars using IRAF and Python.Interned at the John C. Wells Plantarium under Director William Alexander. Developed show content in conjunction with fellow students. Gave shows to private and public groups of all ages on a weekly basis.
