The inspiration behind Fillim came out of a desire to contribute to the creative fabric of the global societies we are now all a part of. Fillim was a global online marketplace for independent film makers to share and sell their films. Fillim was all about finding the unknown Filmmakers and providing them with an infrastructure that allowed them to focus on filmmaking instead of the technical complexities of self distribution.1000's and 1000's of independent films were viewed on Fillim. We were early to market in the VOD space which has now become crowded and disseminated.Fillim "Failed" and I learnt as all Co-Founders of Startups do when we fail. We all know that most startups fail... What you don't know until you have one that fails is how hard and how good it can be.The learnings from failure are extremely valuable. We took a step back and analysed every point of weekness that contributed to the final outcome.It also gave us the opportunity to celebrate the achievements.At Fillim's height we had 12 passionate people contributing. We built an elegant system that did exactly what we set out to do. 1000's and 1000's of independent films were watched on the platform. My own skill set expanded dramatically including learning Ruby on Rails, JQuery/Javascript, CSS, HTML, Agile Development, Phonegap. My leadership skills improved and I honed my ability to motivate people to work for a common purpose.Fillim also gave me many opportunities to contribute in unexpected ways including as panelist at startup conventions and as MC at Vivid Festival's FailCon.It was a fantastic, exciting time and despite Fillim's failure it has forged me into a much more pragmatic, creative well rounded tech saavy obsessive.
