Recruited into this start-up division of AlliedSignal utilizing cutting edge proprietary technology for the design and manufacture of high density ball grid array substrates. Developed, installed and certified reliable and repeatable manufacturing processes using Six-Sigma methodology and tools, and migrated them from R&D line to volume manufacturing. Managed Product and Process Engineering groups responsible for all aspects of manufacturing engineering including product development, process development, product qualification, customer satisfaction and cost. Improved product yield over 500%. Role included ownership of P&L for this new product line. Responsible for pricing, evaluation of customer designs for profitability and manufacturability, determination of number of designs in manufacturing, making quote/no-quote decisions, and customer satisfaction. As technical interface between AlliedSignal and customers, translated customer requirements into manufacturing specifications, and negotiated with customer for acceptance of design changes for manufacturability.

Managed the Alpha Product Engineering group, including teams responsible for start-up, qualification, delivery, and cost reduction of all Alpha microprocessors. Drove multiple projects, including microprocessors and chip-sets, at all phases of the product life cycle. Planned and executed staffing, salary planning, material budget and scheduling for all projects. Insured that quality, performance and delivery met business and customer expectations.Introduced the latest generations of Alpha, doubled performance and cut costs in half. Qualified and released cost focused Personal Computer Alpha, extreme performance Alpha, and ASIC and custom chip-sets, while continuing development of future generations. As a result of beating schedule, cost, and performance goals, Digital was able to maintain its leadership in microprocessor performance.Interfaced directly to customers on technical issues of start-up, quality and performance, driving solutions to insure satisfaction. Identified special requirements such as extreme environments and custom functionality. Drove changes to design, manufacturing and testing to meet those needs.
