Disaster Cycle Services leader for Kentucky Region of the American Red Cross supporting a tremendous group of employees, volunteers and partners in ensuring service delivery through preparedness, response and recovery operations. The Kentucky Region of the American Red Cross Humanitarian Services serves 119 counties in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. I led a staff team of 15 and a volunteer core of several hundred to ensure full disaster cycle services (prepare, respond & recover) are provided to each client.Completed Disaster Manager Certification through the American Red Cross. Through preparedness efforts, our team consistently exceeded our goals and documented a verified 69 lives saved due to our home fire campaign, including two lives saved due to the pillowcase project youth preparedness and safety program, during my leadership tenor.

Regional lead for disaster preparedness, mass care and recovery manager for 87 Indiana counties. Remotely coordinate with managerial team to organize volunteers within preparedness initiatives, provide logistical support and daily responses to disaster. Encourage, develop and build capacity for volunteer leadership region wide. Facilitate volunteer training and implementation of disaster preparedness education for youth (The Pillowcase Project) and senior citizens resiliency with particular attention to under-served populations. Administrator for region wide database system for disaster supply inventory, ensure staff and volunteer transparency among partners and improve partner relationships with government and nonprofit entities.

Consulted with GRS partner program, ONG Biriaelat, based in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea building staff capacity to oversee implementation of SKILLZ curriculum. Enhanced priorities for $100,000 yearly programming and staff budget costs. Gained government permission to implement program in public and private schools on the island while developing a more direct relationship with funding partner. Influenced placement and hiring of follow up consultant for future success of program in difficult social environment. I worked in the only Spanish speaking African country as a capacity building consultant with a local Equatorial Guinean NGO. The Grassroot Soccer Curriculum is an innovative sports and activity based HIV/Malaria prevention and life skills curriculum utilized to engage and empower youth to make healthy life choices. I supported day to day organizational functioning, relationship building with key constituents and training of youth volunteers.Facilitated three-day training for El Salvador, Costa Rica and Nicaragua Peace Corps Volunteers, staff and host nationals in Grassroot Soccer (GRS) SKILLZ curriculum. Guided feedback and teaching practice sessions to improve coaches’ ability to implement courses. Co-lead three day training for Peace Corps Volunteers and community counterparts in Skillz curriculum, a soccer and activities based HIV prevention and life skills program. Certified 17 new coaches in Jamaica.

I worked as the coordinator for two Peace Corps initiatives on a national level; Sports for Life and Superman. Sports for Life is a HIV prevention & life skills program collaboration between Peace Corps, Grassroot Soccer and DREAM Project. We train youth educators and young professionals as coaches who then teach a basic 12 hour curriculum to younger youth. Directed and facilitated the management and development of a sustainable HIV Prevention/Leadership program with local NGO partner; DREAM Project & US Peace Corps Dominican Republic. Organized content, logistics, budget, coordination and delivery of seven national and regional conferences. Demonstrated the use of active learning methodologies in teaching lessons, team building and leadership. Monitored & evaluated local coach interventions including class completion, attendance and test results. Co-Created system of regional coordinators to oversee program standards and monitoring of active trainers within their region to promote sustainability and local ownershipSuperman is the Boys Peace Corps initiative developed as a compliment to GLOW (Girls Leading Our World). Organized content, logistics, budgeting and MC coordination of five national and regional boys camps. Initiated the involvement of Dominican male youth leaders in programming and facilitation with vision for sustainability and leadership/facilitation training. Supported and supervised implementation nationwide network of boys groups, reported accurate number of participants and groups. Compiled, edited and co-wrote first edition of activity book for volunteers working with boys groups.

Initial placement was with an international NGO, Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH). Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos is a home for over 215 orphaned, abandoned or otherwise neglected youth. I Volunteered for two years at the home, living in a nearby community with my wife. Focused on supporting boys recreational programming and the boys adolescent development. Developed and moderated HIV support group in conjunction with staff psychologist for HIV positive youth. Oversaw creation of fifteen world maps. Assisted in the writing and development of a new five year outcome based project plan for PC Youth Sector. I Volunteered at a variety of Peace Corps organized camps and conferences, taking youth and professionals to capacity building events.

Home visits, one on one time with youth and supporting parents in improving their methods with at risk youth. mentored at-risk pre-adolescent youth clients and their families in their homes. Modeled appropriate and responsible social interaction for parents and youth. Cooperated with a team of support specialists, case managers and therapists utilizing appreciative inquiry, wrap around and strength based approaches with youth and families.

Represented Fort Lewis College on campus and in key markets throughout the United States through frequent group and individual presentations with prospective students and their families. Designed travel schedule for off campus recruitment events, implemented and expanded national recruitment plan. Supervised and provided individual training to staff and student ambassadors. Managed concurrent enrollment program for Durango area high school students enabling students to earn college credit while still enrolled in high school. Managed 10 state recruitment territory through in person visits, teleconferencing and consistent email contact.

I worked in a variety of positions in this outdoor education and leadership program for adjudicated and at-risk youth. We taught youth leadership, values education and basic wilderness survival. • Supervised staff team providing clear responsibilities, communication, and strategies to support at-risk youth and implement positive techniques for achievement of individual treatment goals. Developed sixty-day treatment plan, implementing; positive, pertinent, and achievable goals for adolescent at-risk youth by providing supportive framework for at-risk youth to learn and grow. Evaluated youth progress and negotiated transitional placements with case managers and parole officers upon the release youth from the program.
