I am a Branch Library Supervisor for the Ferguson Branch Library within the Gaston County Public Library system. In this role I have been afforded the opportunity to highlight the importance of the library, and library resources, to the Highland Community; to both the residents within the area and to the needs of private industry who require continuing education opportunities for their employees. During this time, I have also lead numerous outreach programs throughout the county to illustrate the importance of literacy and cognitive development. Our most exciting programs to date have been the integration of pop culture, video games and motion pictures to tie-in the need to develop—and maintain—reading comprehension skills to enjoy these other forms of media. I am also proud of our current, and future, involvement with the City of Belmont’s Juneteenth Celebration. I have a Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from North Carolina Central University and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
