As Senior Director, I continued the work I started as Director on the AWS modernization and PaaS build-out. I hired two additional people to the team, which allowed us to move faster on new initiatives and maintain normal operations.As our PaaS has matured, we have focused on autoscaling the platform and extending those features to the application layer. To enable this, we built a first-class observability solution using Fluent-bit and Loki for core logging and Grafana Mimir and Grafana Dashboards for metrics. We are continuing to mature our observability layer to ensure it can scale to our needs.

I took on the role of Director of Platform at mPulse Mobile in response to a need for infrastructure leadership. This was a time of rapid growth, and my primary responsibility was to scale our platform, which was starting to show signs of stress.Like many startups, mPulse had experienced organic growth of its systems. We needed to determine what parts of our infrastructure we could modernize, what we could scale horizontally, and what we could only scale vertically. We also began to plan a complete modernization of our AWS infrastructure and a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) solution for our development team.As part of our AWS reorganization, we consolidated a number of disparate AWS accounts under a common organization structure. We also applied policies and best practices to all accounts. We completely overhauled the networking layer by implementing common VPC structures and interconnectivity with AWS Transit Gateways.Prior to this reorganization, everything was managed from the AWS console. We took this opportunity to bring everything under Terraform and Git control for our infrastructure as code solution.After the AWS reorganization was complete, we began planning our PaaS solution. We evaluated Kubernetes and had a positive experience, but ultimately settled on HashiCorp's Nomad, Consul, and Vault suite of products. These products provided an elegant solution to the problem we were trying to solve.

After being acquired by mPulse Mobile, I maintained my position as Software Architect for the Streaming Health Education platform (formerly The Big Know.) I worked with engineers across mPulse to integrate APIs and data models to bring the systems into more alignment with one another. I was also in charge of hiring additional developers for the Stream Health platform.

Here are a few of my accomplishments in this role:• I designed the architecture and led the team that created version 2.0 of our learning platform. This was a completely new project that included an approach to course management that embraced "Infrastructure as Code" to deploy identical courses across systems from development to production. This was previously only achievable by a lot of manual effort or copying production data to lower systems.• Completed architecture diagraming for the entire 2.0 system.• Created Chef recipes + Docker scripts so developers could run identical systems that closely mimicked our production environment on Heroku.• Created AWS Cloudformation and later Terraform scripts to bring up environments in AWS.• Acted as the technical resource for Hi-Trust audits.

At Crisply we developed an automated time tracking application that used external source data and machine learning to compute how much effort was going into specific projects.
