– Designed an open-source software package to take raw data from a telescope that is complex, un-calibrated, and contains bad (dirty) data, and reduces the dataset into structured, clean, research-quality data. Hosted at github.com/giffordw/OSMOSreduce– Mined large, high-dimensional data sets from public relational databases to study astrophysical properties of galaxy clusters and joined with data from different sources– Developed a Gaussian mixture regression model to predict physical properties of astrophysical objects based on a limited set of observables. The regression was performed with Bayesian priors and a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulation of the posterior distribution– Utilized ~100 cores on a university high-performance computing cluster to routinely run parallel jobs to complete a statistical study of how shape affects astrophysical observations
