Director, Community Impact

Washington, District Of Columbia, Us

I oversaw all marketing, communications, and government relations for the Foundation. I initiated and implemented a strategy shift from traditional fundraising, always asking for donations, to working hard to provide value first, which motivates people to support your mission with time, effort, and donations. It is content marketing for non-profits and causes. Because of that, we grew support, allowing us to provide more for families living with Fragile X.Instrumental to the effort was a technology shift to Office 365, Salesforce, HubSpot, and Classy platforms, which all interface automagically with an API to decrease staff time and manual errors. Because we are small but mighty, I managed outside contractors to help with website development, design, and content, but I also assisted with each of these as needed.I also conducted all Congressional relations and public policy efforts, including organizing an annual advocacy day with around 150 advocates and constituent meetings throughout the year.As part of working with external partners, I served as the Co-Chair of the EveryLife Foundations' Public Policy Committee and as Secretary of the Board for the Friends of the National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disorders. Mar 2008 - Jan 2009

Communications Director And Press Secretary

U.S. Senator Larry Craig

As the communications director, I oversaw all external and internal communications, including traditional media, digital, podcast, speeches, Spanish-language, and constituent mail. This was an unusual setup in Congress, but I am a firm believer in coordinating all of the opportunities to communicate your message as a public official. I had a staff of seven and we had a well-deserved reputation of adopting new technologies, from podcasting to behind-the-scene tools. We produced the first podcast for any Senator, had the most comprehensive Spanish-language materials, and were consistently recongized as a top Congressional website by the Congressional Management Foundation. We also researched, scripted, filmed, and edited 5-7 minute documentary-style videos on the history of all of Idaho's 44 counties. I served as his communications director during the national crisis, being the tip of the spear to national and Idaho media, staff, and other stakeholders. I served as the communications director from 2006-2008 and the press secretary from 2004-2006.
