I am an anthropologist and expert in qualitative studies of science, technology, and society, with a special focus on how social context and identity (including gender, race, and disability) shape how people use healthcare technologies. I direct the Science & Technology Studies (STS) and Technology Ethics programs at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. I am also an affiliated faculty member at the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research. Beyond higher education, I have launched and advised several biotechnology companies, using a medical anthropology perspective to direct strategy, communications, scientific collaborations, fundraising, and plan for future growth. I founded Implosion Labs, LLC, which specialized in ethnographic research for these industries.
