I was a research scientist and PI on a grant from the DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) NIMBUS program for understanding fundamental lightning physics. I was the scientific lead for a number of related field projects that focused on solving important outstanding questions on lightning discharge physics. I led ideation, development, and operation of remote sensing systems for detecting lightning radiation at visible and radio frequencies, and led the formulation and publication of physical theories on lightning discharge processes based on these observations. Taught graduate level course in cloud physics

As a new member of the lightning research community, I independently formulated and published a novel hypothesis of lightning initiation that reestablished ice-mediated corona discharges as key precursors to lightning initiation. I also constructed and operated a successful laboratory study of hydrometeor-induced electrical corona discharges that continues to serve as the benchmark laboratory study of this phenomenon in the lightning research field. This study also validated key element of my lightning initiation hypothesis.
