I am a barrister specialising in discrimination and equal pay at Cloisters. I was called in 1979 and took silk in 2009.I act for claimants and respondents in all sorts of discrimination, whistleblowing and unfair dismissal claims, including NHS Manchester v Fecitt [2011] in the Court of Appeal which led to the law being changed to include vicarious liability by employers for the victimisation by their employees against whistleblowing colleagues and Kemeh v Ministry of Defence [2014] in the Court of Appeal which highlighted a lacuna in discriminations laws concerning acts of agents acting on behalf of employers. Recently I appeared before the Court of Appeal for a manager dismissed for gross misconduct (Adesokan v Sainsbury's).Over the past few years I have conducted equal pay for thousands of women in their claims against English and Scottish local authorities. I acted for some 4,000 women in Birmingham securing a record pay settlement. I subsequently appeared for 2,700 women in equal pay claims against North Lanarkshire Council challenging the Single Status job evaluation scheme introduced in 2006 on the grounds that it was discriminatory. The case settled.
