Background:As a child, I was always drawing, always involved in artistic projects. My parents were very supportive and told me that I could do anything I wanted when I grew up... So naturally, I rebelled by going into a more "stable" field: science! In college, I discovered that I was really interested in teaching; through TAing and advanced seminar courses, I learned that I loved giving presentations and helping people learn. I decided to go to graduate school, so that I could become a professor and educate the next generation of scientists!And then... I was in graduate school. Through a series of serendipitous events, I moved between a few different graduate schools and got experience in a lot of different labs. I saw the harsh reality of what a professor is expected to do. Much of it is not related to teaching. Plenty of it is not even related to science.So! After receiving my master's degree in microbiology, I am looking for experience in the fields of illustration and design. I am hoping to use my artistic abilities to help other scientists present their research and educate other scientists and the general public.Main Interests:- scientific outreach and communication- visual representation of data and concepts- fine arts design and illustration
