The aim of the Guusje Nederhorst Foundation is to bring a ray of sunshine and smile into the lives of over 31,000 children, who live in shelters and refuge centers throughout the Netherlands, and who, due to violence, abuse or neglect have been robbed of a happy childhood. In order to guarantee the children's safety, many of these centers are in secret locations and so it is very easy to forget that these children exist. At the Guusje Nederhorst Foundation we are committed to drawing attention to the plight of these 'forgotten children' and to create warm, positive child-friendly environments inside these shelters and refuge centers, where the children can feel safe and happy. We improve their living environment by creating so called 'Tovertuinen' ('Magic Gardens') within the centers themselves.
