About Dara Singh, Ph.D. , P.E.
I am a pipe stress engineer with about seven years of experience. This experience includes working on analyzing the piping systems in refineries, gas sweetener and storage plants, and cryogenic systems. Apart from the static and dynamic analysis of various piping systems, I've defined critical lines, standard and insulated support, and established communication pathways with vendors regarding mechanical equipment nozzle loads, special supports, and insulation. I have a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering with a Finite Element specialization and am an avid programmer in various languages.

Mechanical Engineer
Project Name: ZSM-5Date: December 2023 to February 2024I performed pipe stress analysis with Caesar II on piping systems and reviewed the work of other pipe stress engineers who worked with the group. I made pipe route changes if the route suggested by the design engineer did not meet the criteria. Depending on the feasibility and insulation, I chose the appropriate pipe support from the standard Process Industry Practice document and the special supports suggested by the client. I also performed a visual stress analysis of less critical lines and implemented the changes to the piping isometrics. The diversity of piping material using this project was high, and I paid particular attention to Piping Material Specification when reviewing isometrics for continuity and connectivity.Project Name: HickoryDate: February 2024 to November 2024 (estimated)This project is the expansion of the existing plant in Virginia. I kicked off the pipe stress analysis of this project by analyzing the existing chiller unit that ties into a newer section of the plant using Caesar II software. For the new units, I scoped the pipe stress job packages from the P&ID (Process and Instrumentation Diagram) of the project into job packages depending on the size of the piping system, its temperature, and the equipment they connect. In addition, I performed a visual analysis of the lines that do not require software simulation but demand the best engineering practices. I review the work of (and coordinate with) other pipe stress engineers. I also select appropriate pipe supports, including standard and cryogenic ones. I frequently communicate with the department managing engineer and the project manager to report the progress.
Postdoctoral Scholar (Biomedical Optics Lab)
** Developed novel algorithms to reconstruct brain vasculature from raw images using the Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging (LSCI) Method in MATLAB and Python. ** Employed State-Of-The-Art Diffusion Model [developed in 2020] to denoise medical images with Pytorch library.** Used auto-encoder for noise reduction in Python’s Pytorch library.** Performed signal processing functionalities including Filtering, Fast Fourier Transformation, and Wavelet Transformation, Deconvolving to extract physiological features like heartbeat and breathing patterns from functional (time-dependent) images.** Speeded up the MATLAB-based FEM light propagation [under-constrained] model by transferring the algorithm to GPUs and employing multiple processors in parallel on HPC.** Shortened the calculation time involved in LSCI and 2D-SCDCT from hours to less than two minutes by eliminating for-loops and designing a sequence of kernels to perform the same task on GPU.** Designed kernel-based iterative algorithm to remove image noise.** Performed Monte Carlo Simulation obtaining a probabilistic solution of light propagation in tissue.** Performed correlation analysis in the form of Diffusion Correlation Tomography/Spectroscopy.** Performed Statistical Analysis in a cohort study on 210 infant babies to assess the health risk factors like Intermittent Hypoxia using R software.
