I head up the Risk Management function which is responsible for the process of identifying, assessing, measuring, monitoring, controlling and mitigating risks. This includes:-promoting and overseeing the overall implementation of the Risk Management framework;-reporting to and providing independent oversight on behalf of the Boards of relevant legal entities in relation to risk management issues;-acting as Chairman of the BU Risk Management Committees;-taking overall responsibility for the Own Risk & Solvency Assessments (ORSA), the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) and Economic Capital validation;- performing risk reviews of material transactions and projects;-ensuring that the retrocession programme for each legal entity is consistent with the Risk Policies;-maintaining, reviewing and updating the Risk Strategy, Risk Policies, Risk Register, Loss Event Log and Risk MI;-liaising with the internal audit function regarding risk issues and notify any material breach of internal controls to the internal audit function; and-ensuring adequate communication of the risk management framework to all employees and arranging training where necessary.

I head up the Capital Management team which is responsible for measuring and managing CommInsure’s capital position. This includes:• Ensuring adequate capital is maintained over time, including determining specific capital targets set in the context of the company’s risk profile, the Board’s risk appetite and regulatory capital requirements• Engaging with the Board and senior executives to further develop the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) including the ICAAP Summary Statement and ICAAP Report• Advising CommInsure’s executives on capital implications of business and investment decisions • Optimising regulatory and target capital to enhance return on equity• Reporting to the Board, ExCo, ALCO and APRA• Determining and developing Pillar I and Pillar II requirements including target capital, insurance stress margins, stress & scenario testing, forecasting etc.

In Aon Hewitt, I gained experience on the different roles of a Defined Benefit Pensions Actuary including:• Ongoing monitoring of funding position.• Accounting for pension costs – FRS17, FAS87 and IAS19 - advice on assumptions, calculation of pension cost and year end disclosures and modelling future pension costs under different scenarios.• Valuation and funding advice – funding proposals, cash-flow projections, actuarial certificates, plan valuations.• Calculation of transfer values and preparation of benefit options statements.
