Daraksha Rehman is a first-generation Indian-Canadian immigrant, originating from the small town of Jamshedpur. She spent the majority of her childhood in Delhi before relocating to Scarborough at 12 with her family. Recently graduated from York University's School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design in 2024 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Hons. in Film Production and a Minor in Human Rights and Equity Studies. Daraksha is the visionary behind Real-N-Reel Films, a film production company driven by advocacy, dedicated to catalyzing global change through cinematic endeavours and initiatives. Influenced by esteemed figures such as Deepa Mehta, Mira Nair, Michelle Yeoh, and notably inspired by Khaled Hosseini's "The Kite Runner," she aspires to emulate their impact through her storytelling. Daraksha currently serves as a Board Member of the Breakthroughs Film Festival. Her fervour lies in amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and women, shedding light on lesser-known narratives to educate and evoke societal action while narrowing gender disparities. She hopes to continue her social work career by bridging her films to Advocacy.
