Community Organizing and Cultural Education/Preservation Youth Initiative ManagementA cultural education centered weekend initiative where, with other local artists and culture bearers, Virgin Islands students (and eventually tourists) learn from/pass on local trades and crafts to youth of all ages in order to insure the preservation and documentation of our heritage using technology and the arts. K365/Sankofa Saturdays firmly believes in the importance of documenting for the purposes of cultural preservation along with organizational, historical and personal importance, through the use of newsletters, photojournalism, presentations, collages etc. Teaching youth and strengthening their emotional maturity/judgment, leadership abilities, adaptability, communication skills, enthusiasm and energy, self-confidence, respect for elders/authority, and others, but especially themselves.The Initiative focuses on volunteer community documentation generally including the passing on of cultural education through use of media, technology, arts or cultural and historical projects. K365 has received grants, partnered with/gains support from various local agencies including the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts, the VI Lottery Youth Enrichment Initiative, the V. I. Academic and Cultural Endowment Scholarship, First Lady Cecille deJongh and others. K365 is co-managed by Per Ankh Institute which serves as a fiduciary as well as a source of guidance and other support. They travel to cultural events where the students serve as the youth media team in cultural tours, nature walks, conferences, poetry readings and other arts or cultural activities.
