On a greater quest to find potential sand sources in the Gulf of Mexico, I worked to image the subsurface using CHIRP, multichannel seismic, multi beam and side scan backscatter, grab samples, and piston cores to formulate hypothesis of how the ancient river systems have been preserved and altered throughout time. I prepared, processed, and evaluated the data at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus. My results were incorporated into a group presentation to industry sponsors and I was responsible for and presented the area background and piston core evaluation. I was selected to be interviewed and filmed by TDI Brooks International for potential future marketing purposes.

Hawai'I Island

An intensive field experience that examined the Big Island of Hawaii's active and historic volcanism prior to the recent volcanic activity of Kilauea. Extensive hikes across the island provided a unique experience with instruction of critical field techniques. I worked on a special project with the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory to measure displacement of the East Rift Zone due to activity of Kilauea and new formation of the Lo'ihi Seamount (the next Hawaiian island). I also gave two presentations about Kilauea Iki and Waipi'o Valley.

Oklahoma

An immersive field experience in Oklahoma taught me key information about structural geology and how to connect my knowledge of Texas' geology with surrounding areas. Examination of the folding sequences in the Arbuckle and Ouachita Mountains provided me with a better understanding of how to formulate a big picture situation from multiple locations with little pieces to the puzzle.

Texas

Weekend field excursions to unique geologic formations throughout central Texas provided me with extensive knowledge of the structure and stratigraphy of the Llano Uplift. I visited Mason Mountain Wildlife Management Area, Marble Falls, TX, Packsaddle Mountain, Llano, TX, Inks Lake State Park, Bastrop, TX, Mount Bonnell, and surrounding Austin, TX areas. Throughout this time, I was able to recognize the different rock unit formations, piece together the depositional history of this region, and learn what types of environments existed in deep geologic history.
