About Darcie Clements

With an eccentric passion for creating games since childhood and a broad scientific background, I am able to use my advanced problem solving skills and mastery of reductionism to turn any task into a series of achievable goals. More importantly, I possess the drive to see these goals through to completion. From planing to programming, design to development, I love every aspect of game creation, leaping at any chance to join a motivated team bringing influential and quality entertainment to the world. My primary skills are in design, game play programming and AI (Artificial Intelligence). I also often bridge the gap between artist and coders leading some to call me a TD/TA.Strongly motivated by a sense of responsibility to the team and player, my ideal work environment is one of co-operation, creativity, open constructive criticism and positive reinforcement.Currently I am seeking an entry level or possibly a senior position in an area of the game development industry where I can best utilize my skills. Although during schooling I often worked in lead positions, I do not feel it is yet appropriate to seek such positions professionally and will not be reviewing jobs listed as such unless specifically requested to do so by a recruiter.Specialties: AIGame DesignGame Play ProgrammingTechnical Direction/ArtWriting

Darcie Clements Work Experience Details
  • Independent
    Game Developer
    Independent Oct 2011 - Present
Currently I am looking for a new team/studio to join with promising and intriguing projects. I thrive on challenge and am looking for a project that will let me further grow as a developer. Most recently I have been working with javascript in web browser native HTML-5 and Node.js which were fun exercises in squeezing out consistent performance with major limitations and different idiosyncrasies between environments. For my next project I would like to branch out more and work on a game that has fewer/different technical limitations such as a more powerful target platform, working with an actual game engine/framework and/or using a C-family language. Alternatively, I'm up for using my experience with native in browser HTML-5, JS, CSS and Node.js to create an exciting product that really pushes the boundaries of what people expect to see in a native web browser game. I'm also available for AI work.I work very well remotely and from home, but I am open to moving for the right project.Previous contracts are listed independently.
  • Fitfunner
    Programmer
    Fitfunner Apr 2013 - Jan 2018
I've was brought in as a contractor to an indie start up group that sought to blend healthy habits and games. My roll was to help bring together the first few event (mini/sub) game projects by creating front end code. I worked closely with an experienced designer, front end web developer and back end programmer along with an artist, tester, marketing specialist and the producer/director during my time at FitFunner. Games were to be html-5 browser based to work on any device without the need to install anything. My roll quickly changed to the jack of all trades as I took on more and more back end and design assignments in addition to the front end development. This included everything from database structure to web services to server management and source control. I also worked as the technical artist for game assets, converting the main artist's work into assets in 3 different custom resolutions to preserve the best possible visuals. Additionally, I collected and edited sounds and musics for the games, and wrote articles for the sites blog.My role in front end development included the use of raw java script and CSS combined with a small portion of the CraftyJS and JQuery libraries. In many cases a preexisting solution that ran well in all desired environments was not available and in these situations I built custom tools for my own sub games and for the rest of the team to use. Initially I worked on side games that players would enjoy as tie-ins with the main product while the other developers focused more on the core game and health content. Eventually, I moved away from the event games to aid in the core project, but as happens all-to-often in the start up world, funding was lost shortly before the main project could be completed. This job was done remotely using Skype to stay fully connected with the team.

    Johnson Controls Dec 2012 - Jan 2013
    Cork, Ireland, Ie
I was asked to work on a last minute rapid prototyping project for Jonson Controls (a company I had done some work for through Spindance previously). The prototype was to be used as a demo of the upcoming product at the 2013 Consumers Electronic Show. My role was to use an Android phone as a stand in for a piece of hardware still in development. I programmed the phone to communicate wirelessly with the existing automotive consoles and implemented the visual touch screen GUI for the demo. In addition, I wrote detailed documentation to add the presenters at the show with assembling, maintaining and troubleshooting the full system. The product is (for now) known as the OHC or the next generation of a currently available automotive component known as HomeLink. The program was developed using Java through Eclipse and the Android SDK. Additionally, Tortoise SVN was used for version control.

Working with a large group of other students I worked to polish my skills in leadership and programming during the production of Maximum Chaos. This game is a 3D 4-player 3rd person shooter developed in Unity. Primary system development was completed during my final semester at Ferris State University. Myself a few others followed up by dedicating our summer to turning the simple prototype into a full fledged and polished game. This required a major overhaul of nearly all assets and systems, but resulted in significantly better final product which can be downloaded and plaid for free from maximumchaosgame.com
