Daren began his Emergency Services Career in February 1984 at the age of 14 when he joined the Walkertown Volunteer Fire Department as a Cadet. He began his EMS career in May 1988 when he was hired as an EMT-Basic with Forsyth County EMS. Daren was credentialed as an EMT-Paramedic upon graduating GTCC in August 1989. Daren worked with the FCEMS STAR Team. Daren was also a member of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and saw extensive duty during 1992 at Hurricane Andrew. As part of his duties with SORT he served as Team Commander of the Bio-Chemical Response Team during the 1996 Summer Olympics. Through the mid 2000’s Daren was involved with disaster response in NC to Hurricanes Fran, Floyd, and Isabel. Daren became a Field Preceptor in 1994. Daren is active with Walkertown Volunteer Fire Department and was promoted to Lieutenant in the early 1990’s. Daren became a Credentialed EMT-Paramedic Instructor in the mid 1990’s and was promoted to EMS Training Officer in 1999. Daren continued his education with resident courses at the National Fire Academy. From 2001 to 2008 he worked as part time Coordinator for Forsyth Technical Community College’s EMS Program. From 2005 to 2011 Daren worked as a Critical Care / Flight Paramedic with Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in both rotor and ground units. Daren currently serves as Assistant Chief with Walkertown Fire and Rescue. In April 2014 Daren graduated from the County and Municipal Administration program at the UNC School of Government. In June 2014 Daren was promoted to Assistant Chief for Forsyth County Emergency Services. In 2016 Daren was appointed as a Medical Examiner for Forsyth County. Daren retired from Forsyth County in May 2018 after 30 years. Daren accepted a position as EMS Manager for LifeStar Emergency Services in June 2018. In January 2019 Daren was appointed Fire Chief of Walkertown Fire Department. Daren stepped down as Fire Chief of Walkertown Fire Department in April 2021 to assume the role as Director of the Department of Emergency Services for Forsyth County, NC.
