I am a VP Research Analyst at ETR, a primary market research firm offering quantitative and qualitative insights specializing in enterprise IT.Prior to joining ETR, I was an analyst at Gartner covering data and analytics. Before that I was a professor at the University of Southern California and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I taught and conducted research in the areas of strategic communication and new media, with an expertise in crowdsourcing — an online, distributed problem solving and production model that uses the collective intelligence of online communities to achieve specific goals.I was the first to publish scholarly research using the term "crowdsourcing," and my work has been widely cited in the fields of computing, business, public administration, and urban planning. I am the author of the books 'Crowdsourcing' (MIT Press, 2013) and 'Crowdsourcing in the Public Sector' (Georgetown University Press, 2015), as well as 20+ published articles and book chapters. I have given keynotes around the world to academic, government, and business audiences.
