Experiencing near death working as an ecologist in Borneo Rainforest gave me a particular drive and impatience to live life fully and get out of research into big systemic change. Seeing the drivers of destruction in the forest, it was time to see how business could evolve to be more life sustaining. Over the last 30 years, I have focussed on building bridges between people in business and the ecosystems and communities that the business and all life depend on. 30 years in consultancy, at the edge of change, sometimes with the worlds biggest consulting firms and sometimes with the most innovative change makers, I am now chief orchestrator at C Level. C Level was forged in Brighton in 2000, on the south coast of England. We introduced some new language that has stuck, Carbon Footprint, Carbon Balanced, and Low Carbon all came from C Level when it was founded. Our Carbon Balanced certification redefined ‘offsetting’ and ‘neutral’ being an approach that is always pro nature and pro people. We choose to partner with climate conscious businesses, connecting them to the world’s best nature based solutions. Together, we remove carbon, restore nature and enhance local livelihoods. To make this happen we help businesses calculate their impact and only work with the most holistic and rigorous nature based solutions. Our twin programmes provide businesses with both verified carbon removal and experiential biodiversity uplift. C Level stands for - action on carbon, action on forests, with communities…I was raised in the Northern Hills, the Pennines, I had space to play and build and learnt the ways of plants and animals and birds. I also learnt the art of salvage, all threads that have helped vision and create. I invited the Biotect, Michael Reynolds to Brighton, set up the Low Carbon Trust & we built europe’s first Earthship. Millions later followed our building of the Brittany Groundhouse on Grand Designs. C Level is an exceptionally dynamic business, but I make time whenever I can in practice to remain connected and grounded. I have completed the Journey with Mac MacCartney and The West Country School of Myth programme with Martin Shaw. Our culture is distracted. We need the experiential back in our lives and communities and work. Only then can we be the wayfinders needed right now.
