I have most recently worked as a contractor migrating Oracle EBS from a proprietary hosted data canter onto AWS using Terraform and Ansible and I am looking to continue on this path of infrastructure automation. I am presently taking a short hiatus to complete certification trainings before I embark on my next position where I would be open to contract or full time employment in the city of San Francisco.I have been a Unix Systems Administration for 20 years and DevOps engineer for 6. While I earned my stripes on Solaris 5 - 8, my primary OS expertise is with RedHat, CentOS 5 & 6 and Ubuntu 12 & 14. Most of my experience has been with front facing, revenue stream websites with a focus on platform development, configuration management, and integration with support and site operations. During the past 8 years I have focused on configuration management and platform automation while continuing to develop my expertise with systems and site monitoring. I continue to work with hybrid hosting environments with everything from bare-metal server hosting to virtualization stacks to cloud computing.
Listed skills include System Administration, Ubuntu, Centos, Rhel, and 46 others.

"Automate All of the Things!"DevOps wth Chef, Xen Server, Zookeeper and Nexus on RackSpace, with a complex stack running apps on Tomcat using Cloudera, Redis, HBase, Postgres, MySQL, MS SQL Server and .NET. We are also moving our application to Kubernetes containers.Last year I migrated log and metrics collation from a venerable ELK stack to Sumo Logic which now collects and parses all log data from apps, systems, as well as Fastly events along with graphite data collected from sensu and other data points. This provides a single pane of glass for this data for more effective analysis and an additional dimension of trend analysis which can report on anomalous behavior that can greatly help with giving us early warnings before problems affect site performance and/or function. This year i've been migrating 3 data centers using Xen Center 6.2/6.5 to a mix of Xen Center 7.1.0 and ESX 6.5 (VMWare). I am also architecting new physical and virtual network topologies for both networking and storage fabric/iSCSI. The guest OSes will be Ubuntu 16.04 and Windows Server 2012, except for the “snowflakes” that we must replicate by imagine. Provisioning is presently being handled with Chef. Next up, Terraform...

DevOps? Not so much, really. As things turned out, I became in charge of corporate IT, internal VMWare environments and all on-premises services. I also mentored two junior IT administrators. It was good to get my hands dirty again with some great core technologies and rebuilding a small data center.

I was on a team which provided DevOps support of Ruby-on-Rails apps running on Ubuntu servers which are hosted by vCloud Air and Amazon Web Services. Automation is managed with Chef and Jenkins. Other major technologies I worked with were MYSQL, vSphere, Redis and Zabbix. I also worked a bit with VMWare's LogInsight, which was IMHO a reasonable alternative to the popular but highfalutin Splunk and labor intensive Kibana, Logstash and Elasticsearch solutions.Socialcast is a subsidiary of VMware and is a product which offers a superior opt-in corporate collaboration construct at the SaaS, dedicated cloud service, and on-premise level.
Alexandria, Virginia, Us
I was responsible the maintenance and deployment of Ruby-on-Rails apps running on CentOS. Deployments were managed in Capistrano.
San Francisco, Ca, Us
I was the lead Systems Engineer (DevOps) for our Amazon EC2 hosted environment which served Ruby-on-Rails applications with data housed in Postgres, both at the app and data warehousing level. I served as the hosting environment architect and implemented idempotent server builds using Chef and deployments with Capistrano. In addtion to the Chef infrastructure I made use of Vagrant for environment testing and RightScale for platform consistency, management and version control.
New York, Ny, Us
Provided multifarious Linux administration for their complex eCommerce site build upon a core of apache/JBoss/Oracle. I also specialized in monitoring of both the infrastructure and site using Nagios.
New York, Ny, Us
I provided a broad spectrum of systems administration for Solaris servers and later provided ops support of the retail banking site hosted on Windows 2000 Enterprise/ASP/SQL Server.
San Francisco, Ca, Us
I co-architected and supported the hosting environment for a custom StoryServer content management system on Solaris- the platform which supported the primary B2B eCommerce applications.
Also, while on a brief hiatus from Autodesk/Buzzsaw, I was the single Unix system administrator for the total of 6 weeks that I worked there before they closed their doors.
While on a brief hiatus from Autodesk/Buzzsaw, I helped "productionize" the Deployment of java telephony apps on WindowsNT as well as develop the monitoring of those systems and their telephony hardware with StieScope and Perl.

I was the sole IT Systems Administrator where I provided server and desktop support of Apple (System 7), Windows 95, and Windows NT workstations. I also administered a handful of Solaris 5 and SunOS 4 servers as well. Finally, I also managed two part time contractors who assisted with the desktop and server support.
I built custom FileMaker Pro applications for corporate, retail and educational clients. My responsibilities included writing proposals, designing and developing business solutions, training and technical support.
