Working in an outlet as my first job has taught me a variety of skills, which will aid me in my future roles and responsibilities. During my time at Joules, I have earned and highly developed excellent customer service skills which are fundamental to any retail environment. These involve greeting the customers at the front of the store to create a welcoming atmosphere, informing them of current sales and the option of help regarding sizes, and opinions if needed, and building an understanding of the customer’s style and wishes through casual but professional interactions in order to provide them with alternatives to unavailable options they have asked about; all leading them to have a pleasant shopping experience, and an urge to return to the store. Furthermore, I also developed my commercial knowledge about not only the products but also how to organise and arrange a store to attract attention from passing individuals, and drive sales. Following intensive training provided by Joules’ training platform, I have gained an understanding of the importance of conversion, data linkage, average units per transaction, net income, and average value of transactions, as well as how to improve them. I also have experience with cashing up the tills and completing the needed paperwork under supervision. Teamwork and collaboration are the skills I have always focused on and developed at every opportunity possible. I believe that I work well under pressure and I can effectively manage my time, especially with customers during busy periods and crowds.
