Diversity and being well-rounded are essential, and I bring that to the table. I graduated from Des Moines Area Community College with an Associate’s of Liberal Arts in 2019. I graduated from Simpson College, majoring in Biology and Health and Exercise Science. I was involved in Health and Exercise Science Club, Pre-Health Society, and Simpson Swarm. As a result of my time at Simpson, I have a strong liberal arts background full of influence from all departments. I also am a Patient Care Technician in the Emergency Department at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Through my coursework and work experience, I developed an understanding of the medical field and a brief overview of its processes. As a Rehabilitation Aide, I helped run copays, answer phones, schedule patients, verify insurance, build, check, and update patient charts. I also assisted with patient exercises and ultrasounds. This job allowed me to better my customer service, communication, and personal responsibility. As a technician, I currently care for emergency department patients and assist with resuscitations, codes, and traumas. These skills, alongside my education, provide me with the stepping stones I need to enter a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. I have been accepted into the Mercy College of Health Sciences Accelerated BSN program this spring. This program will allow me to become an RN and continue working in the emergency department. I will follow my ambition and strong work ethic to reach my goals and one day be the nurse I long dreamed of being, all while bettering myself along the way.
