A native of Secondigliano, a suburb in northern Naples, I am currently a Senior Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) in Washington, D.C. I started at GMF in 2019, holding the position of IAI/GMF Fellow for two years, working primarily on Italian foreign policy in connection with the Italian Institute of International Affairs (Istituto Affari Internazionali), before becoming Senior Resident Fellow. I have written extensively on Italian Foreign Policy; Mediterranean, African, and Gulf Security; Geopolitics; Terrorism and Jihadism; Global Politics; International Relations; and Political Risk. My works have been published in scholarly journals such as Orient; Journal of European Integration History; European Foreign Affairs Review; Cairo Review of Global Affairs; European View; The International Spectator and others. My commentaries have also appeared in major international media, including: The National Interest; The Diplomat; Middle East Eye; Defense One; The Kyiv Post; Just Security; World Politics Review; Politica Exterior; The EUObserver; War on the Rocks. I started working as a political risk analyst and consultant in 2003 in Italy and established my political risk consultancy, the Mediterranean Eye Risk Consultancy, in London in 2014, collaborating as a consultant with some of the most important organizations in the business, such as Dun & Bradstreet, IHS, Oxford Analytica, and others; as well as with international organizations and multinational companies. Since 2009, I am also a regular contributor to Jamestown Foundation’s publications, writing on Terrorism Monitor, Militant Leadership Monitor, China Brief and Eurasia Daily Monitor. Since September 2023, I have also been a Visiting Senior Researcher at the Institute for Middle Eastern Studies at King’s College London, the university from which I received my PhD in Middle East and Mediterranean Studies in 2015. Previously, I was a visiting researcher at the International Centre for Policing and Security at the University of South Wales from 2018 to 2020; director of the Executive Training in “Global Risk Analysis & Crisis Management”, (GRACM), and an adjunct professor in International Affairs and Conflict Studies at Vesalius College (VUB) in Brussels, from 2014 to 2018; teaching assistant in Political Science and Comparative Politics and E-Learning assistant at the University of Naples “L’Orientale” from 2005 to 2009. Here, I completed an MA (with distinctions) in International Politics and Economy in 2007 and a BA in International Relations and Diplomacy in 2005.
