Lecturer In Leadership And Work Psychology
CurrentI am responsible for delivering high-impact research and teaching. My current research projects fall into three areas: leadership development, work identity and volunteering. The core projects and main findings are:Leadership development# Investigating the development of leadership self-identity, skills and capabilities in the training context. I find that leader identity plays an important role in facilitating the acquisition of skills and competencies. My research makes a strong case for evidence-based, longitudinal leadership training and development.# Developing tools to assess subconscious (implicit) leader self-identity. I find that leaders hold beliefs at both subconscious and conscious levels, and both matter when predicting leadership attitudes, motivation and behaviour. To learn more watch the video in my highlights!Volunteering# Investigating volunteer recruitment, retention and wellbeing, particularly focusing on the role of volunteer identity and leadership. Specific and practical strategies to improve volunteer management practices are proposed.TeachingI teach units in the Business Psychology program (Master’s and Graduate Certificate), including Leadership and Organisational Development and Change.
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
I led a research project to investigate and help to improve recruitment, retention, wellbeing, and diversity at the WA State Emergency Service, and other emergency services in Australia. To achieve these goals, our team conducted over 70 interviews with volunteers from across WA, two large-scale surveys, delivered multiple workshops and presentations with various stakeholders in Australian and New Zealand emergency services sector.Project outputs to date include:* A volunteer 'attract-in-ator' - a tool for evidence-based recruitment messages that attract the right volunteers to right positions* Volunteer engagement survey with automated feedback and reportingThe project is generously funded by The Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC.

As a Research Officer at the Center for Social Impact (UWA Business School), I took active part in a number of social policy research projects, including design and execution of data collection, data analysis, analytical insights and reporting. I managed a large, longitudinal research on the impact of specialized homelessness intervention.
