As a teacher, I have received Teacher of the Year two times for my school site and District Teacher of the Year once. During my career as a teacher, I was always one to step up and help create and implement new programs. I have been involved in a STEAM program and a Dual Immersion program. The Dual Immersion program started eight years ago, and I was chosen by administration in our district to help create, implement, manage, promote, and coach from the onset of the program. This was a great honor, and the program brought the district out of a rapid decline in our district enrollment. Another area that was important to me was to be involved with my student population. Many students needed someone to create different opportunities to be involved in outside of the classroom. I have created computer clubs, running clubs, talent show (I still found a way to do this virtually during COVID) Science Olympiad Coach, Gifted and Talented Education coordinator, and Associated Student Body Coordinator. Outside of working with the students I served on many committees throughout the years. I was the Parent Teacher Association Teacher Liaison, School Site Council, member of the Founding committee for the Alpine Education Foundation, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Lead for Academics and on the committee for Socio-Emotional Support. I also like to make sure that I was always available to coach and be supportive of my fellow teachers and administration by serving as Lead Teacher and as an Administrative Designee. On a global level I volunteered for a fundraising group for the San Diego Zoo. This organization, Ocelots, supports the needs that the zoo has for their animals that are outside their budget. I served on the board as a co-program’s coordinator for fundraising events. I am currently still a member. How do all these past experiences qualify me for the job? I'm not afraid of a challenge; I find a way to make things work. I understand how to build community and mentor my peers. I have been very successful in creating programs that fulfill student needs and build self-esteem and make them feel connected. I have taken it upon myself to learn everything I need to learn to make me successful in my career choices. A perfect example of that is when I made the decision to join the Dual Immersion program, I traveled to Utah to learn firsthand what needed to be done to make the program a success.

Teacher-Dual ImmersionAlpine Union School District Aug 1996 - Aug 2021Alpine, California, United StatesMy philosophy of education is simple: support my students, model a love for learning, and contribute to my community. I believe in inspiring students to do their best and that they can achieve anything with hard work and clear goals. Education is an ongoing process and I set the example of being a life-long learner. I am always eager and ready to learn something new and take on a new challenge. It is important to give back to all the communities you are a part of - educational, local, and global. I have also participated in a Multiage Looping class 3-5 grade students for three years. Very successful program that helped our school earn a Distinguished School Award as a special program.
