CurrentThe sheriff, a constitutional officer of the State of Tennessee, is elected for four years as an officer of the Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County Government. Sheriff Daron Hall is currently in his third term.The DCSO employs a professional staff of approximately 850 individuals, has one of the lowest turnover rates in the country at around 11 percent, and the sheriff is responsible for $70 million of the taxpayer’s money. The mission statement, as formulated by Sheriff Hall and his management team, reflects duties listed in the Metro Charter, in addition to goals the office strives for daily. It states, “As a law enforcement agency committed to public safety, we strive to be the leader in the field of corrections, service of civil process, and innovative community based programs, emphasizing: Accountability, Diversity, Integrity, and Professionalism.” The agency oversees five jails with a daily inmate capacity of approximately 2,500.
