I am a highly motivated chemist with broad experience in Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Petroleum Chemistry, and Nitrogen Production Chemistry. My work in the different chemical subdisciplines allows me to use a broad approach to R&D problems to come up with efficient and timely solutions. This experience along with my background in academia allow me to explain complex chemical problems to any audience. My primary roles in chemical industry have focused on problem solving of plant processes, investigation of quality incidents of products for production facilities, terminals, and customers, and development of new products. I have performed these roles for both the petroleum and nitrogen industries where I functioned as a primary investigator and a team leader. I am experienced in ISO and ASTM methodology. I am the champion and author of ISO 20620 – Determination of Total Nitrogen by Combustion. I served as a voting member of the ASABE ISO TC134-WG1 voting body for ISO methods for fertilizer. My Environmental Chemistry experience included research focused on organic contaminants in the environment and new technologies for remediation of contaminants. I eventually took a leadership role for a team of 13 scientists for the analysis of wastewater samples for both Military and Civil water quality projects that included USACE water quality districts in the U.S. and military work abroad. I have been an active leader throughout my education and professional life. I supervised numerous research students during my graduate and postdoctoral studies. As an assistant professor, I supervised eight undergraduate students and seven master’s students in independent research. I led a group of 10 analysts for completion of water quality projects with the Corp of Engineers Environmental Chemistry Laboratory at ERDC. I led a team of 7 petroleum chemists who investigated quality problems, characterized crude oil for refinery feed stocks, and performed research into the chemical properties of refined naphthenic and paraffinic oils. At CF Industries, I lead a team of two chemical analysts in the performance of analytical duties associated with CF’s Quality Programs. I am a devoted employee and adamantly believe in making a sound contribution to the mission of my employers and the chemical sciences. I am self-motivated, a fast learner, and can quickly acquire new skills. I am easy going and get along with all personality types. My leadership background is solid, but I am also happy working as a member of a team.
