During this time I completed a Bachelor of Business degree from DBS, receiving a 2.1 final grade. The degree was offered in conjunction with Lidl Ireland. This allowed me to develop my skills both in the classroom and through practical implementation in store. My time on this degree allowed me to gain valuable first hand experience in many management areas within the business. I consistently developed the following skills:- Cash management of the store on a daily basis- Ensuring high quality merchandising and monitoring stock levels throughout the store- Managing and delegating to a team- Adapting to unforeseen circumstances and ensuring a high standard of performance - Ensure success of the store by achieving KPI targets- Stock management through ordering and inventory control- Excellent customer service- Ensuring store cleanliness and presentation are of a high standard- Delivering training to new and existing staff members- Daily completion of HACCPA requirement of this degree was to periodically liaise with senior management and undertake projects to enhance the performance of my store. I have also visited Lidl head office on several occasions to both present and explain the projects I undertook. While in my second year I received the opportunity to be a project manager in the development of the in store SPS scale. I was selected with two of my colleagues to each lead a ten person team for three weeks. My role was to ensure the measurements collected by my team were accurate. My duties as project manager included the following:- Development of workplanners for my team, this included finding cover for sicknesses and facilitating holidays for members of my team- Ensuring my team performed to a high standard and remained focused- Communicating with senior management regarding progress- Organising accommodation for my team

I worked as a store assistant in one of the Kilkenny branches of Lidl. In this role I was a high performing team member, I regularly went the extra mile to ensure the store's standards were maintained and to ensure I contributed to the store's success.My duties as store assistant included the following: - Checkout operation- Merchandising and stock levels- Quality checks- Customer service- Baking of produce and merchandising baked goods- Store cleanliness and appearance- Daily completion of the HACCP- Back-stock management - Warehouse organisation- Waste recycling and removal- Health and safetyOne of the most enjoyable aspects for me was working in different ares of the store, this provided a varying nature of work and made each day different with different challenges. I worked as a shop assistant for Statoil petrol station in Callan.This role required me to work shifts in the adjoining shop and gave me experience of working in a smaller retail environment. My duties included:- Checkout operation- Merchandising of stock- Preventing theft- Selling age restricted products i.e. cigarettes and scratch cards- Authorising fuel pumps and ensuring payment for individual pumpsThis position allowed me to enhance the following skills:- Customer service- Merchandising and stock levels- Checkout operationThis role allowed me to develop an understanding of different challenges that are present in a smaller business such as this and working with a smaller number of staff. Having this knowledge has helped me adapt to being short staffed in my future employment by developing concession plans.

I worked as store assistant in the Kilkenny branch of toppart.My duties included:- Stockroom organisation- Locating correct parts for customers from stockroom- Receiving goods in- Till operation- Store cleanliness - Customer serviceThis role allowed me to develop the following skills:- Warehouse organisation- Customer service- Locating parts via correct part numbers- Attention to detailThis position allowed me to work in a different type of customer facing role, it also allowed me to develop a keen attention to detail which was key to the role.

I worked as a store assistant for SuperValu in the Callan branch. This was my first experience of the retail industry and therefore provided me with the building blocks of a career in retail. While working for SuperValu I worked in different areas of the store such as waste management, merchandising of the shop floor, butcher counter operator, deli counter operator, alcohol and chilled produce ordering.
