Electrical Services Division Field EngineerBritish Gas Jul 1998 - Nov 2005Leeds, United KingdomWorking within the British Gas Electrical Services Systems Division providing home security and electrical repairs to British Gas customers throughout Yorkshire. I was responsible for their system based business procedures, at the age of just eighteen, I was their youngest engineer in the division. This was a newly, coveted role due to British Gas launching into new areas. Spending seven years with British Gas enabled me to attain a highly professional work ethic and the need for the standard of work that was offered to all clients be second to none. This in turn gave me the confidence to set up my own business and this is where Select 1 was born and I was able to incorporate all that I had learnt and put this into practice with my own clients. -

This was my first role as an engineer from my apprenticeship. I was responsible for the role out of security system upgrades for a national high street cosmetics store. At this point, I had added two apprentices to my personal team. This was a real learning curve and very influential in how I wanted my career to progress. -

I enjoyed the variety of work and collage, and the friendships of the engineers I worked with some of which I am still friends with today. The role taught me a lot technically and how to be a great engineer. It also taught me a lot about how bad management will have a negative impact on moral and engineer performance. I was grateful for my opportunity at Wares my training and qualifications.
