When Aspira took over this school from PSD they went from 462 suspensions to 4. It's a challenging school (7 have resigned already), majority of students in 5th grade are 2 or 3 grade levels behind. Its an elementary school which then would surprise most to discover the amount of violent behavior. Egregious a moral behavior directed at each other and teachers. As usual most really do want to learn, its always the 4 or 5 (or more) in every classroom from K to 5 that make every single day so brutal. Love the School, Love the kids :0)CHAD lost their funding and 6 teachers lost their jobs, I was one of them. Turns out they were not following Philadelphia SD rules for acquiring students. Currently Philadelphia has revoked their charter (of which they are fighting) but they are in decline. It seems then in hindsight they did me a favor as where I am now far exceedes any place I’ve been.

A true Middle School of only 6th 7th and 8th graders, at 752 students total. Philadelphia is pushing their teachers to the limit. Currently (as of October 2015) they are still 200 teachers short. Meaning many schools are at capacity of 33 students in every class 6 sessions a day. What?! Yes that's 198 student papers to check grade and correct. OMG! Science is so cool...you'll never run out of cool things to tell the kids... update: Philadelphia School District is in serious disarray, decay, calamity, contention, and an overall embarrassment to the profession of educating children. In speaking with the administration at District headquarters Philadelphia I was given a list of schools and offered to "take my pick." I responded, "where do you have the greatest need for someone with my background and skill level?" Stunned, they smiled brightly and said, "Steel needs you for sure..." I accepted their request and am currently in the process of taking over the 7th and 8th grade Science curriculum - they have not had a full time teacher since they started in September.Update: With everything I have I tried to love these children. I'm afraid their background and ingrained patterns of living (what is considered acceptable behavior) are so skewed as one man making effort I could not effect change. Abandoned by the Principal, no climate control, an assistant that taunted teachers, blaming us for all that was wrong with that school... after being threatened by the bullies of the school and assaulted I requested a leave which was granted.
