Asset Management of SA Water Major Pipelines across the state. The pipes are predominantly above ground Mild Steel Concrete lined pipes and in total there are over 2,200km of major pipelines. This role includes managing pipe inspection work, long term planning, preparing business cases for capital investment and sponsoring the capital projects to ensure that objectives and outcomes are met. I also assist with the inspection and asset management of the Sa Water Dams portfolio which includes 17 large dams and numerous other smaller assets.

Key aspects of the role include management of tanks, buildings, pipe replacement, surge vessels, concrete chairs and Eyre bores. Key achievements include asset inspection of discharge pipework in Mannum Adelaide Pump Stations, achieving Full Financial Approval on major tank refurbishment projects, completion of a tank access procedure for Asset Management staff and complete revision of the Asset Management Plans for all major pipelines. In this role I am a champion for Project Server and a subject matter expert for implementation of a document management system.

I was seconded to United Water to assist in managing larger capital projects to ensure that SA Water’s interests were maintained in the lead up to close out of the Uniter Water contract. In this role I developed a design and strategy for refurbishing Bolivar sludge lagoons with 4 stages costing $12m. I assisted in managing Christies Beach WWTP upgrade project and contributed to a number of other strategic projects, primarily at WWTP’s.

In this position I was responsible for managing a suite of projects from initiation through to concept design and financial approval. Projects I developed included Water Treatment Plant upgrades, water main relays on networks and major pipelines, waste water pumping station upgrades, dam safety investigations, wastewater reuse projects, land management projects and tank replacement and rehabilitation. Development of these projects required me to investigate solutions, identify stakeholder’s requirements, evaluate solutions, manage people and budgets, undertake risk assessments and develop business cases to support capital expenditure on projects, as well as having a thorough knowledge of the SA Water systems and processes for Capital Project Approval, Procurement, OHS management, risk management and environmental management. In developing these projects and undertaking the above tasks I was involved with managing a broad range of stakeholders both within and external to SA Water to negotiate project outcomes to meet the organisations objectives. Stakeholders often have competing views and objectives which need to be assessed and understood to negotiate a successful outcome. A key component of the development process was to understand water and wastewater treatment processes and to map the procurement path projects need to take through the delivery phase of the project.

Managing the routine and periodic maintenance and minor capital investment projects on the road network in the Mid North of South Australia which included the Yorke Peninsula, Barossa Valley, Clare Valley regions and the Barrier highway. This involved managing a team of 10 people and a number of long term road maintenance contracts.
