I joined the RAF as a University Cadet in 1983. Following tours as a C130K copilot and a Qualified Flying Instructor on the Tucano, I became a C130K training captain on LXX Squadron. I was then fortunate to be selected for exchange duties and served with the USAF at Charleston AFB, South Carolina, on the C17. This led to my joining the newly formed 99 Squadron, where I became Chief of Training, and helped introduce the C17 into RAF service; this period involved Operations VERITAS in Afghanistan and TELIC in Iraq. In 2004 I was posted to the Permanent Joint Headquarters as a desk officer for the Afghan and Balkans operations teams and then to the RAF’s Personnel Management Agency as an HR manager. I then served 18 months as Chief of RAF Flight Safety at Air Command before being posted to RAF Cranwell as Chief Instructor for No 1 Elementary Flying Training School. I then joined the strategy team that introduced the Military Aviation Authority as the sole regulator of UK Defence aviation. This was followed by a tour as Chief of Operations at Bastion Airfield. In 2012 I focused on space as an analyst and air advisor at the Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre. I am currently a C17 simulator instructor pilot at the Boeing Defence UK, C17 International training Centre.
