I always knew I wanted to do something in tech, but I didn't know what until I hit college. I started off with computer engineering, and I made it about two years into my degree before I took a C++ course with one of my favorite professors to this day. Her course made me instantly switch to Computer Science that same semester.I still love coding and I'm currently developing a Discord Bot with a close friend. It currently is hosted on an old laptop turned into a Type 1 Hypervisor using Proxmox. We are using Node.JS for the server side language and it makes use of Gmail's REST APIs to grab the most recent email from a specific label within Gmail. The email is then reformatted and sent via POST request to display a chat message in our shared Discord server. We intend to add more functionality after we experiment more with cloud hosting solutions like GCP and AWS. I'm most interested in full stack development and in the long term I'd like to explore exploit writing as well.My favorite class in college was an ethical hacking course where, during the first class, I tried to get a free copy of the textbook and downloaded a virus instead. After ironically bricking my laptop on the first day, I was hooked. We learned some basic attacks, like XSS, CSRF, MITM, and SQL injection. That class opened me up to a whole new world of interest. Following this experience, I took courses in security infrastructure, penetration testing, and software engineering; I knew I was on the right path because there was so much more I wanted to learn.In my current role in Information Security, I have had opportunities to participate in CSIRT exercises, pass the GIAC Security Essentials exam, pass the GIAC Certified Penetration Tester exam, and learned how to establish a personal environment to practice security concepts. I'm coming up on 2 years at Bank of America and there is so much more to learn — after all, I'm just getting started.
